“The church is not a building we turn up to, but a community of faith we grow up with. It is not a bunch of people who ‘have it all together’, but a bunch of people who do life and faith together.”
Rev. Rod Fisher, The Gap Uniting Church
Your faith journey
We each walk a different life and faith journey. Some of us were born into a faith and experience of church that may never have been questioned. Others have wrestled with or rejected church and/or faith at various points in their lives. Others are interested in learning more about spirituality. These are all normal and valid experiences.
If you are curious about exploring more about God and the Christian faith, don’t let past church experiences get in the way. These can be helpful in discovering and understanding more about what a life of faith isn’t about, as much as what it is.
Faith can be like “waiting in a hall”. In the words of C.S. Lewis in “Mere Christianity”:
“The hall is a place to wait in, a place from which to try the various doors, not a place to live in… It is true that some people may find they have to wait in the hall for a considerable time, while others feel certain almost at once which door they must knock at… When you do get into your room you will find that the long wait has done you some kind of good which you would not have had otherwise.”
The Gap Uniting Church seeks to provide a place to grow your Christian faith, and answer unanswered questions in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
“I thought faith would take away the pain and discomfort, but what it ended up saying was, I’ll sit with you in it.” Brene Brown
Belonging
“We are about belonging in order to believe… not believing in order to belong.” Rev. Rod Fisher
The Gap Uniting Church is not an exclusive club.
There are no prerequisites to be part of our community other than a curiosity in learning about and following God.
We are not perfect but we strive to be real, inclusive and authentic in sharing our life and faith journeys with others.

We acknowledge it can be daunting to attend a church for the first time or after a long absence. The bible reminds us that we were not created to do life alone, we were created for community.
In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. (Romans 12:4 – 5 – Message version)
